Views and principles

I have decided to run for the Chișinău Municipal Council because today's school decides what tomorrow's city will look like. For 35 years I have been the principal of the high school in Durlești — and I have seen how a good school changes destinies, and how a neglected one breaks them.

I started as an IT teacher in 1989, when computers were a rarity, then became deputy principal, and since 2002 I have led the school. I know what an IT lab without working computers means, what a good teacher leaving for a triple salary at an IT firm means, and what a child learning the internet alone, with no one to shield them from its dangers, means.

If you elect me, I will fight for concrete things: real digitalisation of schools — modern IT classrooms in every high school, not just on paper; salaries and conditions that keep IT teachers in school instead of driving them into the private sector; and online-safety programmes for children, together with parents. A child from Durlești must have the same digital chances as a child from central Chișinău.

All my life I have believed one simple thing: a good teacher is worth an army of reforms. I have raised generations of pupils who today work in IT all over the world — and my greatest pride is that some of them came back home.

This candidacy is not about office — it is about responsibility. Together we can make the school keep pace with the future, not chase after it.

Career analysis

Marian Vacarciuc's career is, in essence, the history of school IT over the past 35 years. He started teaching programming when computers were a rarity — and stayed in school when colleagues left for triple salaries in the private sector. That loyalty says everything about a person.

Eight years as deputy principal and over 20 as principal mean a whole school of educational management: timetables, staff, budgets, parents, inspections. A councillor who has run an institution with hundreds of pupils knows what an owned decision means.

As an IT teacher, he understands technology from the inside — not from presentations. On a council that will vote on school digitalisation, his voice will not be that of an enthusiast, but of a practitioner who knows what works and what is just marketing.

He knows the problem of IT teachers leaving for the private sector first-hand: he has lost good colleagues and learned how to keep the rest. The solutions he proposes will not be theoretical.

Finally, he was born in Durlești and has run the high school of his native suburb for 35 years. He is not a manager "parachuted in" from elsewhere — he is the man who raised generations of his neighbours' children.
