Views and principles
I have decided to run for the Cahul District Council because a city that knows how to welcome guests is a living city. Cahul has everything it needs — hardworking people, good food, traditions — yet tourists pass us by.
I was born in Cahul and I have worked in food service for almost 30 years. I started as a waiter, learned the trade from the plate up, and since 2009 I have owned my own restaurant and catering business. I know what it means to welcome a guest — and what it means to lose one.
I know the problems from the kitchen, not from an office: tourists do not come because nobody invites them and nobody shows them what we have; small food businesses are drowning in paperwork and inspections; the city has too few events that bring people together. One good festival brings in a weekend what ten months of advertising bring.
If you elect me, I will push for concrete things: an annual calendar of events and festivals in Cahul, promoted nationwide; real support for food businesses — simpler procedures, not more of them; a strategy to attract tourists, putting Cahul on the map, not on the sidelines. Hospitality is an industry — let us treat it as one.
This candidacy is not about office — it is about responsibility. A city that welcomes guests warmly wins twice: money and reputation. Together we can make Cahul a destination.
Career analysis
Romeo Zgardan's career confirms, step by step, the qualities a voters' representative needs.
He started "from the bottom": as a waiter he learned that a guest does not forgive — neither bad food nor indifference. That stage taught him respect for the customer and the discipline of service: in food service, quality is tested every day.
As a café manager he learned to manage people, stocks and money. He understood what a real budget means — not on paper, but in the till — and how a small business survives between taxes, inspections and competition.
Since 2009 he has run his own business — a restaurant and a catering service. He learned to risk his own money, to create jobs and to answer for them. An entrepreneur knows that promises do not pay salaries.
Finally, he was born in Cahul and welcomes guests in his hometown. He sees Cahul through a host's eyes: he knows what is missing for tourists to come — and to come back.
