Views and principles

I have decided to run for the People's Assembly of Gagauzia because our school teaches children in two languages — and both deserve respect, while the building they study in should not be falling apart over their heads.

I was born in Ceadîr-Lunga, and for over forty years I have never left this high school: I joined it as a history teacher in 1983, became deputy principal, and since 1996 I have been its principal. Our high school teaches in Russian, but our children live in Moldova — and they must know both languages well, so that they have a future here, at home.

Every day I see the same problems: a school building in need of a full renovation; outdated textbooks and a shortage of young teachers — especially of Romanian language and the exact sciences; our children, who leave because they see no future in Gagauzia. That is why I will fight for concrete things: a full renovation of the high school and modern equipment for it; new textbooks and real programmes to bring young teachers to Gagauzia; genuinely bilingual education — Romanian and Russian as opportunities, not barriers.

A history teacher knows that a people who forget their school forget their future.

This candidacy is not about office — it is about responsibility. Together we can make the school in Ceadîr-Lunga a reason to stay, not to leave.

Career analysis

Ivan Ciachir's career confirms, step by step, the qualities a voters' representative needs.

As a history teacher he learned to explain the past without bias and without clichés — a rare quality in a region where history is often used as a political weapon. Five years at the blackboard taught him to speak to young people in their own language.

Eight years as deputy principal taught him school administration from the inside: timetables, staffing, repairs done on little money — in a Russian-language high school, where every textbook and every teacher counts double.

Since 1996, as principal, he has kept the high school standing through the hardest years, preserving both the standard of teaching and the school's bilingual character. He learned to manage people and budgets in a chronically underfunded system — exactly the kind of experience a deputy of the People's Assembly needs.

Finally, his bond with Ceadîr-Lunga is total: he was born here, he studied here, he has worked here all his life. He is not running for Gagauzia from somewhere outside — he is running from its very midst, as a local man whom people know and respect.
