Views and principles
I have decided to run for the Soroca District Council because our history is not a decoration — it is a resource: the Soroca Fortress can feed this town, if we treat it as an investment rather than a beautiful ruin.
I was born and raised in Soroca. After university I came back home: for nine years I was a guide at the Soroca Fortress, then a research fellow at the museum, and since 2016 I have been its director. I have told our town's story to thousands of tourists — and I have seen how much tourism could bring, if only we had the means to welcome visitors.
I see the same problems every year: the fortress draws people, but there is no infrastructure around it — no parking, no public toilets, no marked trails; the museum needs renovation and new exhibitions; and the district's villages, full of history, are linked by no tourist circuit at all. Tourists come, take a photo and leave — and their money leaves with them.
If you elect me, I will fight for concrete things: tourist infrastructure around the Soroca Fortress; the museum's renovation and new interactive exhibitions; cultural routes linking the town to the district's villages. Soroca can become a destination, not just a stopover.
This candidacy is not about office — it is about responsibility.
Career analysis
Mircea Vartic's career confirms, step by step, the qualities a voters' representative needs.
As a fortress guide he learned to talk to people: thousands of tourists, hundreds of questions, dozens of nationalities. He knows what a visitor is looking for — and, more importantly, what is missing for them to come back.
As a research fellow he studied archives and documents: he knows Soroca's history in depth, not from legends. A councillor who decides on facts rather than impressions is a rarity — and a necessity.
Since 2016 he has directed the museum: budgets, projects, renovations, partnerships, exhibitions. That is management experience in a public cultural institution, with all its constraints — the kind of practical schooling a district council needs.
Finally, his whole life is in Soroca: the fortress is not a tourist attraction to him, it is home. He is running to turn heritage into development — for the town where his daughter is growing up.
