Views and principles

I have decided to run for the Orhei District Council because I have seen what culture does for a village — and what happens to a village when culture disappears. I am the director of the House of Culture in Biești and I lead the "Doina Orheiului" folk ensemble.

I was born in Biești and grew up with the village hora and my grandparents' songs. I studied at the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts in Chișinău, and after graduating I came back home — because the stage I want to sing on is my village's stage.

I know the problems from the inside: artistic groups have no costumes or instruments; ensembles cannot reach neighbouring villages because there is no transport; the House of Culture hall needs major repairs — the roof has been leaking for years.

If you elect me, I will fight for concrete things: funding for costumes and instruments for the district's folk groups; a touring programme taking ensembles to the district's villages; repairs to houses of culture, starting with the most dilapidated; free art clubs for children, so young people stay connected to the village.

This candidacy is not about office — it is about responsibility. Together we can give our villages back the cultural life they deserve.

Career analysis

Tudor Armașu's career confirms, step by step, the qualities a voters' representative needs.

He started "backstage": as an accompanist he learned what work from the bottom means — rehearsals, tours, evenings when the hall is half empty. That stage taught him patience and respect for every person in the group.

As leader of the "Doina Orheiului" ensemble he learned to unite very different people into a group that works. Organising rehearsals, tours and festivals is, at bottom, management — only through culture.

As director of the House of Culture he runs a public institution: budget, repairs, relations with local authorities. The experience of getting things done on little money is exactly the kind of schooling a district councillor needs.

Finally, his ensemble — a laureate of district and national festivals — has carried the name of Biești and Orhei far and wide. Tudor Armașu has already proved he knows how to represent: now he wants to represent people, not just their song.
